NAME: Naoki Kashima | The Demi-Fiend
CANON: Shin Megami Tensei : Nocturne
CANON POINT: Endgame, Neutral Path (Free Will)
AGE: Around 17-18 (we'll say 18 by the end of the game)
BACKGROUND: Part one which is the game's background.
Explanation of the Neutral Ending
BONUS NOTE: He'll be taken from the Maniax version which means instead of facing off against Dante (which would be against the new rules anyway) he faces off against Raidou from another Shin Megami Tensei game (and being canon connected is part of the SMT universe). SO this is just a note that no, I promise he won't know who Dante is, jokes about featuring Dante from Devil May Cry aside.
PERSONALITY: Before Conception (an event where the world ends and there's a sort of 'contest' to rebuild it with someone's Reason aka the first rule of life), Naoki was a confident boy yet was somehow only really was himself only around two other people his age; Isamu Nitta and Chiaki Hayasaka. He cared for his teacher, Yuko Takao, enough to go visit her when she was sick, but otherwise his life was remarkably...bland. Boring.
He is curious, but quiet, the model of a typical Japanese boy of his age, except he lacked any real concrete hopes and dream and a vision of what his life was going to be in general. This is remarked by Kagutsuchi when he ends up becoming part of Conception. Unlike his friends, he's a blank state and the god tells him to find something he believes in.
But how would your personality be shaped, if your world ended? Seeing everything die before him, stuck in a world of demons. Now his bluntness is amplified; Naoki tends to speak with a biting truth, and is mostly annoyed around others simply because he expects violence and demons attacking him. Sometimes he'll even let one of his main demons, Pixie to speak on his behalf, and nods or disagrees with what she says.
Friendships can be torn, when the world is no more and one is turned into a demi-fiend. Naoki's life begins anew in a world that is awaiting Rebirth after a Reason has been chosen. However, because he is now half-demon, he cannot make his own, but must support another. At first, his naive personality and the trust he felt for his friends compels him to help them, but as time goes on, he begins to literally see their truer, darker sides, and it hardens his own heart. And because of this, he is used by all those around him, as they realize their own and their ambitions - hardened in a world ruled by demons. Emotions are now much harder for him to show - even if he disagreed with Hikawa's desire to have the world be without pain or self - he does lock many things inside him. If you are lucky, however, you can catch him off guard simply standing on his arms or swinging from a tree branch - after all he's still a young adult at heart and even if he's been stuck in a world awaiting rebirth he lived nearly 18 years before that as a normal human.
His biggest strength is his love of freedom; he does not want a world to be ruled by a single will, and knows that despite the hardships, the evil and the problems that come with Free Will, he would rather take his chances with his old world than support any of the Reasons that were presented to him. His courage is tested over again, even having to kill his own friends as they summon their demon sponsors through the sacrifice of others, in order to stand on his own.
In the end, Kagutsuchi, the god in charge of Rebirthing the world comments he has become somewhat like the fallen angel before him, he has been seduced by free will and rejects holy order. And this is true in his personality too - he does not judge someone as good or evil until they have proven themselves, and because of the demonic blood, there is a certain darkness to him that he can't quite ignore, no matter what his intentions might be. The power lust is hard to ignore - gaining all these powers has also affected him in that way. He expects people to fight him or dislike him.
Unfortunately, this has also turned him into a much more hardened individual that carefully watches those that would interact with him. Naoki's nativity has turned into distrust; always somewhat afraid that he'll just be used again against his will. He does not need the changes of a new Reason, and wishes to go on his own way. Lucifer might have given him the means to survive, but he will not bend down to the fallen angel either. Yet in that way, he is partly doing exactly what Lucifer expected.
It does not mean that the Demi-Fiend is now and forever a shut door; if you prove yourself worthy, he will be your friend and protect you. It is, however, a long and bumpy road. After all, while he does have demon blood, the heart of a human beats inside him, and that is exactly the way he'd like to keep it, even if he keeps most of his emotions locked up.
Oh and don't touch the fin on his neck. It's very sensitive and he does not like to be poked there. You touch that, you might just get yourself burned or snarled at.
POWERS/ABILITIES:
Demi-Fiend
Due to being given powers by Lucifer (tm) via a Magatama, Naoki is a demon with a human heart. Basically his body is made to endure the harsh world of Conception, unforgiving and teaming with demons that would be more than happy to kill each other before wanting to work together. Due to this he has above average endurance, strength and speed. Look how happy he is just grabbing demons with his hands like no big deal.
Fire Breath
It's more because of his Magma Axis skill but he can breathe out fire when he's annoyed or just as a sort of 'warning, stay away'.
Demon Negotiation
He can speak with demons and ask them to join his team, which will probably not happen here but I thought I'd list it. It's like Pokemon except with hell creatures. They usually want money or to get at his energy first however so he expects people to ask to bite him. Yes it's weird.
Magatama
Upon arriving into the Vortex World, a young child (Aka Lucifer) and his caretaker put a Magatama in Naoki's eye, turning him into a Demi-fiend; a person with the blood and powers of demons, but a human heart. The Magatama itself is a creature-parasite that bestows upon him a range of powers and skills. It also changed him psychically; he has a horn on the back of his neck that works like a sensory organ, and is branded with tattoos all over his body that glow when he uses his powers.
While being terribly beneficial, they can also randomly cause terrible curses on him. Normally he can have access to up to 25 of them and switch around since they are all in his body (he eats them to gain their powers), but to not make him over-powered, I'll bring in one and list it as part of his inventory.
Currently, he has Masakados ingested. This makes him null to all attack except for nuclear/almighty ones. However I'll have him get sick from it once in a while (something that can happen in game) so that he's not just a walking tank. Blocking attacks also greatly reduces his chroma, so he'll need to moonlace to regenerate after a battle.
ATTACK SKILLSET
Summon - Summons a demon ally to the battlefield. Naoki does not need a summon device.
Wild Dance - High chance of inflicting panic on all enemies.
Heat Wave - Inflicts heavy damage upon all targets. (High critical-odds)
Javelin Rain - Inflicts heavy damage upon all targets; may inflict Mute.
Xeros Beat - Inflicts heavy damage upon all targets; may inflict Bind. (High critical-odds)
Mediarama - Heals HP greatly to entire party.
Magma Axis - Mega fire damage to a single enemy.
Freikugel - Mega almighty damage to a single enemy.
INVENTORY:
1) Pixie (Neutral Fairy Clan)
Pixie has been with Naoki since his first early hours in the Vortex World. In fact, you might call her the closest Naoki has to a best friend in this world, and harming Pixie could cause him to go berserk. In return for her services, during their adventures they found a door which granted her tremendous power for sticking by him despite all the odds. To mess with Naoki is to mess with Pixie, and vice-versa.
2) Cerberus (Neutral Beast Clan)
If Pixie is the Demi-Fiend's bff, then Cerberus is like his dog/ride/badass guard dog. He can be found many times during the day sleeping on him because his fur is super soft and acts like a pillow. Sadly right now he's about the size of a large dog, but eventually he'll want to restore him to his 'twice as big as this' size.
3) Makami(Light Avatar)
A cute thin long boi
4) Hresvelgr (Dark Wilder Clan)
A bird.
5) Black Forst (Dark Wilder Clan)
Heee ho! An angry snowball mascot.
